In this report, a joint commission by Good Ancestor Movement and Patriotic Millionaires UK, Milly Shotter explores seven areas where the effects of extreme wealth are creating extreme systemic destabilisation.

6. Equality

7. The environment

Each domain is explored with real world data, showcasing the distortion that extreme wealth is already enacting, often in plain sight. The report also posits the tipping points, or thresholds, that once breached in a society create runaway effects whereby a single digit percentage of a given population exercises power and influence over the vast majority.

There is a call to outline an 'extreme wealth line', a countervailing measure to the well-known extreme poverty line; the former would seek to cohere an objective, rigorously researched figure, beyond which wealth of a certain measure starts to dismantle civic and ecological systems, leading to wide-scale systemic collapse.

The problem with extreme wealth is not just that its potential to do good is wasted, but that it creates new harms, negatively impacting society, the economy, and the environment, rendering millions if not billions of people worse off. The potential harm of extreme wealth goes far beyond the cost of inaction.
