Steward's Corner

Steward's Corner asks five questions of Stewards doing their bit towards planetary flourishing, from a range of disciplines, across different realms of expertise, from community builders and entrepreneurs, to scientists, artists and designers.

What we hope is to plant Five Seeds of Transformation, to give rise to a living forest of inspiration and actions that contribute towards collective thriving.

A New Earth Project seeks to raise awareness of the scale of plastic pollution in waterways. New materials for packaging, focused on circularity, are actively being developed in collaboration with Atlantic Packaging, one of the largest privately help packaging companies in North America, of which Wes is also president. Working to change the system from within, stewarding towards a regenerative, circular economy, is a core tenet of the movement.

Wes Anderson is Founder at New Earth Project.

What does a flourishing future mean to you?

As a culture we have become so invested, and enamoured, technology and progress, with we have lost the greater spiritual context of existence. All things move towards greater levels of complexity...that's evolution. But in order to Flourish, we must have coherence, as well. Coherence is the acknowledgement that we are not alone, but rather are part of a diverse, magnificent tapestry of life. Intelligent, beings, have an obligation creator and privilege to balance our advancement with the clarity of the truth of existence and work towards greater levels of coherence with all other life. A flourishing future is one where humans remember that all life is sacred,. and we harmonise our evolution with the whole of life.

What current challenge are you aiming to solve?

The waste crisis. To me, the waste crisis the most visible representation of a world that has lost its way. In our obsession with cost and convenience we built and a throwaway society that has been tragically myopic. We now are witnessing ecosystem collapse, species extinction, polluted waterways and oceans, and all the result of misaligned value set for industry.

It's time to bring healthy life to the negotiating table of industry, with a prominent seat. As we design a more sustainable, regenerative materials economy, we can solve the waste crisis and also show the world a shift consciousness. A shift that acknowledges that we are nature, not something separate from it.

If you could incept one question, quote or word, into the collective mind to help us bridge into a thriving future for all, what would it be?

Wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit, and as vital to our lives as water and good bread. A civilisation which destroys what little remains of the wild, the spare, the original, is cutting itself off from its origins and betraying the principle of civilisation itself.

What's the first best step someone can take, who is interested in your field?

Awaken to their unique, innate gifts...the ones that elicit passion in their heart and mind. Once they know that, then find ways to bring their best self to their daily work-life and harmonise with the team. Everyone is valuable and everyone can contribute if they are in alignment with their true self. Deep inner work is the key to success in personal and professional life.

What do you hope future generations will say about this moment in time?

This was the time when humans awoke to the truth of existence, that we are the universe experiencing itself in radical, creative brilliance and unimaginable love.
