What does it mean to be a Steward?

Stewardship is the radical idea that we don’t own the world - we are responsible for it. It’s an ethic of care, a way of living that restores, protects, and prepares the future for those who come after us.

We're moving from:

Extraction → Regeneration Possession → Responsibility Now → Legacy

Stewardship is for everyone. Including you.

Take the Pledge, Become a Steward

“I pledge to act not as an owner, but as a steward —

of land, time, community, and future generations."

The world over, millions of acts of care, responsibility and reverence for people and planet are occurring. From growing community food gardens, re-thinking economic systems and tackling plastic waste, to tending to waterways, reclaiming the commons and re-imagining living within planetary boundaries, acts of stewardship are multiplying and gathering momentum.

Stewardship Starts With Me is about each person awakening to their own passions and skills, to contribute to a better story. We are not 'consumers' - unthinking, extractive beings, that live solely to consume, but caretakers, guardians and stewards, that live creative, conscious and flourishing lives.

Share your own story of stewardship - any act, initiative, programme or decision you have undertaken to care for the people and planet around you. Let's spotlight every contribution to a better present, and future.

Stewardship is for everyone. Including you.
